Alepreda Architecture's gut renovation of a small apartment in Prague recalibrates the floor plan by adding a study/bedroom and a powder room.
While the project is modest in size and budget, it creates a playful, creative and rigorous language that sets the new "inserted elements" in dialogue with the existing fabric.
Formally, two sculptural volumes, containing a walk-in closet and a new bathroom, are distinguished by a stepped geometry.
The use of colour differentiates the new elements. The insertions are painted white while the existing wall and ceiling receive a taupe colour.
Strategically placed interior openings bring natural light into darker spaces.
This project has been longlisted in the small interior category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
