Studio Ten has created the Avala House in a sloping orchard on the Avala mountain in Belgrade, Serbia.
Avala House, or house for a craftsman, situated in a pastoral landscape near Belgrade, is a case study on how design effort can turn sufficiency into a desirable form for living. The central premise was to include the owner - a local craftsman - in the process of making, to use construction knowledge, workshop skills and capacities within the range of the immediate region. This opened a genuine conversation on the process of construction, brought about novel solutions, offered new applications for local construction skills, and created a custom product with off shelf resources of regional significance.
This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
