The notion of "two-in-one courtyard" means a building and its court are integrated as a whole, physically and metaphysically.
The introduction of a circular structural form to a typical courtyard dwelling helps to enrich time-space experiences, blur the boundary between the inside and the outside, and reinforce the spiritual dimension of the time-honored building type.

This typological research is reproducible in terms of form-making, and sustainable in terms of problem-solving. It aims to revitalize a moribund courtyard in specific and to provide a rebirth strategy for Beijing hutong buildings in general.

This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
