Bermonds Locke is a 143-bedroom Apartment Hotel, co-working space and restaurant occupying a former office building in Bermondsey, London.
Taking a cue from the ad-hoc desert cabins of California’s Joshua tree, a strict palette of standard construction site materials was used to form the interior fit-out. Concrete test cubes were amassed into a curved bar frontage and table legs. Steel rebar was sculpted into a bar gantry and a unique take on the four-poster bed.
Standard industrial processes were adopted to prolong the lifespan of materials, aiming to uncouple the space from the typical wasteful 5 year fit-out cycle.
This project has been shortlisted in the sustainable interior category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
