Mt Coot-Tha House provides necessary refuge from the harshness of the potential hazards of the landscape which surrounds it.
Mt Coot-Tha House explores ideas of connection and refuge within a site characterised by its slope and extreme bushfire exposure.
Basic, economical materials have been assembled in a highly considered manner to create something beautiful, spatially memorable and resilient within a difficult environment.
The house design has to balance between allowing its occupants a meaningful connection to site, with also providing necessary refuge from the harshness of the potential hazards of the landscape.
This project has been shortlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
