Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2021 emerging design studio of the year, ThusThat is a studio focused on critical material experimentation, based in London and Amsterdam.

Our work explores the origins and narratives of everyday materials through the wastes of their production. By bridging across disciplines from scientific research to industrial processes, ThusThat uses design as a means of enquiry and connection between different sectors, to foster more sustainable material practices. We work tirelessly at creating pieces that are strong, simple, and direct in form, keeping the complexity and innovations packed within the materiality itself. We have explored mining wastes from the alumina, copper, and steel industries, and continue exploring new materials and processes.

This studio has been shortlisted in the emerging design studio of the year category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
