Rockwell Group has designed 1 Hotel Toronto in Toronto, Canada.
This project introduces the city to a new standard for a sustainable luxury experience – the design is anchored by efforts to lessen environmental impact, increase physical and emotional wellness, and become a model of resiliency in the hospitality space.
A bustling city with nearly 2 million residents, Toronto is also a natural place, located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario on a broad plateau interspersed with rivers, ravines, and an urban forest.
Rockwell Group’s design concept for 1 Hotel Toronto reframes the city, turning its urbanism inside out, asking, "What if a luxury hotel was an inviting portal to the natural world, instead of a flight from it?"
The material palette takes its influence from the muted colours of the lake and passing seasons and features reclaimed timber, native plants, board-formed concrete, and local marble.
This project has been longlisted in the hotel and short-stay interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
