Snarkitecture in collaboration with SHVO has produced a minimal lobby for a building in New York City that blends artistic spirit with contemporary design.
The project is located on the corner of Broadway and Spring Street, within an iconic SoHo building featuring classic ornamental architectural details.
As artist-in-residence in the building, Snarkitecture conceived every object in the 80 square metre lobby as a work of art.
Custom oil-quenched blackened steel objects such as a wedged sphere, an eroded desk and a threshold appear to float in space or lift off the ground, while Curtain (2021) by contemporary artist Daniel Arsham seems to peel away from the wall.
The disconnect of these objects doing things they wouldn't normally do adds to the reimagining of the lobby by infusing the space with unexpected and memorable moments.
This project has been longlisted in the small interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
