Comley Bank has transformed a Victorian building in Edinburgh into a three-bedroom dwelling that pays homage to its past.
The project is located in what was originally a bakery built in the last decade of the 1800s, on the ground floor of a classic Victorian tenement.
While structural alterations had already started in 2014 to convert the property to a residential dwelling with work stopping soon after, the 2020 purchase by Cabins in the City saw the blank canvas shaped into a dwelling informed by its origins and original features.
The result is an organic, open and warm sanctuary within the city that retains a connection to its commercial past. Elements such as the exposed wall inform colour and material choice, while details including sourced reclaimed coping stones and a black fence to replicate neighbouring properties further root the project in its setting.
This project has been longlisted in the small interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
