Alberto Kalach has created a boutique hotel in Mexico where values focus on awareness, contemplation and understanding of the beauty of an environment in balance.
The project in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, was conceived by the entrepreneur Ezequiel Ayarza Sforza and designed by the renowned Mexican architect Alberto Kalach.
Designed as a reflection of its ecological commitment, revaluation of roots, and development of the local community, the hotel presents a unique, vernacular-inspired architecture in total balance with its natural surroundings.
The building's communal areas and 11 vaulted suites have panoramic views of the sea and offer a nurturing atmosphere with a bohemian aesthetic of neutral colours, tropical woods and natural textures. Design details include artisan crafts such as palm lamps from Jalisco, rugs from Teotitlán del Valle, textiles from the Valley of Oaxaca and hammocks, chairs and curtains from Yucatán. The atmosphere is further enhanced with details and amenities from the Oaxacan sierra, produced by community transformation workshops.
This project has been longlisted in the hospitality building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
