Loader Monteith Architects has created a new, architecturally striking heart of a working farm in Scotland, owned and operated by the same family since the 1600s.
The project is located in South Lanarkshire and replaces a dilapidated steading from which more than 90% of the historic masonry was salvaged and reused. Characterised by three ascending red pitched volumes, Ceangal House is highly insulated featuring triple glazing, an Air Source Heat Pump, and a rainwater harvesting system.
Uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape are available throughout the broken-plan home, designed to strengthen the generational past, present and future connections to the land.
This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
