Artist Hive Studios has designed Field by Hive in Enfield Town, United Kingdom.
This project's brief was to work in partnership with Enfield Council, Dallas-Pierce-Quintero and Palace Gardens Shopping Centre to deliver a hybrid model that sought to bring arts and culture to the heart of Enfield Town.
Architect Andrew Tam of Artist Hive Studios creatively transformed a former Carphone Warehouse into a hybrid cultural space for the community to access arts and culture. Opened in November 2021, Field sets a precedent for how we begin to reanimate our much-loved high streets and town centres.
As a team of cultural practitioners, the designers breathed life into this vacant unit with a minimal fit-out budget, creating four artist studios, workshop spaces and a gallery/shop showcasing local and sustainable artworks and products.
Field stocks art, books, pottery, soaps, candles, textiles and much more, with a focus on locally-made and ethically-sourced products – both of which are essential aspects of the pop-up. Field is a sphere of activity and interest, presenting local artists in Enfield to local customers, thus creating a circular economy and giving back to the area.
This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
