Digital Building Technologies has created an innovative concrete casting formwork to ease pressures of both waste and cost.

Foam 3D-printing is a novel field in construction research that uses porous materials to create innovative, lightweight and insulating building elements. The project demonstrates how this fabrication technology can be used to produce uniquely shaped, complex formwork for concrete casting.

The innovative sustainable mineral foam by the startup FenX AG can be used as stay-in-place formwork or can be recycled for the next 3D print. This allows the fabrication of geometrically optimised building elements that are lighter, use less concrete and feature improved insulation performance to ease pressures of both waste and cost.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
