Nori Architects + Asanuma Corporation have designed the Good Cycle Building in Nakamura-Ku, a borough in Nagoya, Japan.
This project was intended to transform a 30-year-old mid-rise office building into an environmentally-friendly, high-performance space.
Nori Architects felt it necessary to make the most of the characteristics of existing materials and transform them into new materials through processing.
The existing building frame was modified to increase natural light and ventilation, and organic materials such as soil and wood were the main finish materials.
This project repositions buildings in a cycle that does good for people and the earth and reconfigures them as an integral element of the new material flow in the city – hence the Good Cycle Building.
This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
