Noxon Giffen Architecture and McGregor Coxall have created a multi-location hiking experience in Australia that connects users with their surroundings.

The project is located on the Grampians Peaks Trail Stage 2, comprising new hike-in camps and 160km of track along the pristine Gariwerd, Grampians, wilderness traversing the lands of three traditional owners.

The design of the series of shelters across ten locations aims to conserve, protect, and celebrate the landscape's unique beauty while achieving the highest-grade environmental sensitivity.

To incorporate the landscape into the design, a considered selection of natural materials was used in response to the specific nature, colours and textures of each individual campsite, an example being branches of organic cladding that mimic the sequence of vegetation.

The result is a unique experience that curates the various contexts, histories and conditions, producing work connected to the landscape that enhances the hiking experience as it evolves through diverse terrain.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
