Hayhurst and Co has designed the Green House in London, United Kingdom.
This project is located on a small back lane in the Clyde Circus Conservation Area of Tottenham, originally with access to coach houses, orchards, greenhouses, and market gardens where a small area of re-wilded woodland opposite the house remains.
The design draws on the green history of the site, providing a contemporary re-imagining of a greenhouse – blurring boundaries between inside and outside and re-greening the once-unloved site.
Fabric-first and passive design principles are applied throughout, where the house has an airtight and highly-insulated CLT superstructure, a planted façade shades the south elevation, and the riad-style atrium maximises natural daylighting and enables stack-effect cooling and ventilation.
Additionally, Green House is fossil-fuel free, heated by an air-source heat pump with solar panels on the roof.
This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
