RDesign International Lighting has created a lighting design for a cultural centre in China that draws the eye.
Guangming Culture & Art Centre is located in the largest cultural art complex in the north of Shenzhen. The project focuses on the idea of the 'humanistic eye' as design concept.
The semi-circular arc at the entrance of the centre recalls the shape of a human eye lit under the reflection of the light from the lake. The facade of the building is spirally divided into different areas of brightness to focus the gaze, with the entrance acting as highlight and counterpoint.
Elsewhere, the position of the doorway is offset by curtain wall triangle rods and hidden colour flexible light strips, while coloured lights filling large-span overhead spaces see an interplay of light and shadow to reflect the culture and art within the centre.
This project has been longlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
