Helper is an architectural installation in Virginia that addresses notions of consumption and sustainability.
Helper highlights the impact of humans on the natural world, while acknowledging wasted materials, bringing awareness to our environment and addressing the symbiotic relationship between humans and the Earth.
The structure presents a dichotomy between inside and outside through sensory experiences. Externally, sharp ends of abandoned materials represent the material life cycle and human consumption. Moving into Helper, visitors physically and metaphorically change their relationship with the structure.
External threats from the abandoned materials transform into armour, offering a protective shield as the spikes of Helper reach out in every direction calling for helpers.
This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
