Some Thoughts has created a clothing brand store in a historic area of Chengdu that pays tribute to its heritage.
The project is located in Kuanzhai Alley, a hutong which boasts architecture from ancient times, and stands as a commentary on the relationship between heritage and modernity.
The design sees innovative reframing of the visuals that often define old buildings to create a new dialogue within the historical architecture.
Glass bricks, crystal tiles and stainless steel were introduced into the spacious interior to create an environment full of light play, alongside existing doorways and ironwork with traditional Chinese elements. The focal point of minimal lime-green accents add flair to the grey-tone atmosphere.
This project has been longlisted in the small retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
