Becker + Becker has designed Hotel Marcel in New Haven, USA.
This project was once the Armstrong Rubber Company Building, originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1968 and has since become inhabited again after years of disuse as the Hotel Marcel.
Hotel Marcel's two stacked volumes now gather 165 hotel rooms and a sweep of public areas. This unique project sets out to establish a net-zero energy baseline for hotels.
Comprehensive interventions adapt the iconic concrete building to turn it into a hotel whose operation is extremely energy efficient and self-sustaining.
Within the thickness of the walls and the breath of the floorplates, the architectural team at Becker + Becker operated to provide welcoming guestrooms and ensure the hotel minimised its energy consumption.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
