Hotel Terrestre by Grupo Habita
Jaime Navarro

Grupo Habita has created a solar-powered hotel hidden among natural vegetation in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The project is a hotel in Puerto Escondido, hidden in a garden with views of the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra de Oaxaca blue-green mountain range. Designed to produce a minimal carbon footprint, it is conceived as a group of different buildings embedded in the landscape as if in situ for hundreds of years.

The hotel has been built using simple local materials such as concrete, white mud brick, 'maqui' wood and natural pine wood for the interiors. Each room has a private garden of sand and flowers, an outdoor shower, a generous bedroom, and a roof terrace with panoramic views and swimming pool.

The 100% solar building sees was born of a complex energy load study carried out in order to install a carefully calibrated and scheduled system throughout the hotel.

This project has been longlisted in the hospitality building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
