Penda China has created a designed stay amid mountains and trees in a waterfront homestay hotel southwest of Beijing.
The project is sited in West Dharma Village in Fangshan District. It echoes with the form of the village on a physical level, but also on a spiritual level by creating a dialogue between guests and the surrounding nature.
Inspired by traditional building structures, the 24-room hotel has a solid stone structure at ground floor level to block moisture and strengthen the foundation, realising a continuity between the buildings, site and village. The building is constructed by local stonemasons with stones collected from the surrounding areas.
The second floor has a light and flexible wood structure to create natural and liveable interior spaces. The wood-stone combination both diversifies and makes the space attractive inside and out.
This project has been longlisted in the hospitality building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
