Matrix Design has created a commercial pavilion in China that provides a variety of functions, set to design inspired by local culture.

The project is located in Shaoxing City, known for its harbour and waterways, and sees a design that takes points of note from the area's culture as a source of inspiration to highlight elements within.

The design's arched forms emphasise the integration and unity of the inside and the outside, encompassing facilities within including coffee shop, water bar and circular bar with spherical ring lamp. The soft mix of water culture elements, flowing line carpets, ship-shaped long tables, and curved couches lend further character to create a space with atmosphere and feeling.

This project has been longlisted in the large retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
