Keiji Ashizawa Design has designed Miroku Nara in Nara, Japan.
This project was the renovation of a four-storey office-building-turned-boutique-hotel located on the banks of the Ara Pond.
Surrounded by cultural assets, the interior elements of the hotel were carefully curated to allow guests to feel seamlessly connected to the city and demonstrate the region's rich history and contemporary culture.
Primitive and locally sourced materials such as Yoshino cedar, Uda Washi paper and Asuka stone combine with a finely detailed spatial design to reflect Nara's nature and craftsmanship in a relaxed setting.
Ultimately, the designers Keiji Ashizawa Design aimed to collect and convey Nara's charm while fostering the development of new culture.
This project has been longlisted in the hotel and short-stay interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
