Sruli Recht has designed Mist in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
This project centres on a multidisciplinary dance performance by the Franco-Belgian choreographer Damien Jalet and Japanese Kohei Nawa, and the costumes designed by Sruli Recht, influenced by the phenomenon of fog banks that are often associated with the Netherlands.
The Mist costumes are 3D-knitted from spider-silk and handsewn in a 40-hour-long process while being individually fitted to each performer.
Intended to bridge the transition between body, smoke, light and anatomy, the Mist costume blends the different mediums with the delicacy and drama of a spider's complex weave.
The strength of the spider-silk allows for fine and loose structures to be worn during vigorous performance.
This project has been longlisted in the wearable design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
