Metaform Architects has designed Möbino in Luxembourg.
This project is a little cup filled with big ideas. Influenced by Metaform Architects' winning pavilion at the World Expo in Dubai 2020, it takes the shape of a Möbius strip – a single twisted surface that symbolises infinity.
Möbino's ceramic curve is formed into an insulated double wall that allows coffee to slide into its base in one unbroken swirl. This not only keeps hands cool and coffee hot but also retains the crema for a fuller flavour.
Each piece is hand-crafted at Ateliers Kräizbierg – an educational enterprise dedicated to the social inclusion of people with disabilities.
Consequently, the final product is an interesting blend of geometric precision and graft by eye and hand. From above, its edges swirl into a perfect circle while its sides slide flawlessly perpendicular to its base.
This project has been longlisted in the homeware design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
