Contexture has designed Our Resilient House in Queensland, Australia.
This project was created by architect-and-client husband-and-wife team for their own family.
An existing post-war house was reinvented to encourage resilience through sustainability, enacting opportunistic social engagement, respecting the surrounding context and resisting flood and bushfire threats.
Our Resilient House has elevated minimum habitable floor levels. The robust undercroft design that enables flood water to sweep and safely drain without burdening neighbours demonstrated resilience in the February 2022 Brisbane floods.
Additionally, context was an important consideration. Ashgrove’s architectural vernacular is distinctive and valued. These character features influenced key building angles, materials selection and form through progressive modern interpretation.
This project has been longlisted in the residential rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
