EBBA Architects has created a playful stool that combines construction, design and sustainability.
Plod is a design with the simplicity of form that offers many possibilities for use, whether as functional seating or as a combined arrangement to create a side or coffee table. By looking to simplify and at the same time express its construction, it is both a utilitarian object as well as a standalone design piece.
Slotted junctions for the joints create a design that can be rapidly manufactured and finished with relative ease, meaning that distribution and shipping can be reduced significantly with minimal packaging as the stool can be flat-packed and later put together.
Made from 100% recycled paper, it is richly textured in a dappled yet perfectly smooth surface which comes from the natural variation in the way the fibres lay within the paper. Its vibrant colour comes from a combination of the colour of the paper and the deep amber tone of the resin, without any artificial dyes added.
This project has been longlisted in the seating design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
