Helga Blocksdorf/Architektur has transformed an old stable into a photo studio in Rieckshof, Germany.
This project is the conversion of the Rieckshof stable into a photo studio and it demonstrates that, despite a tight construction budget, the possibilities of ambitious architecture within a rural setting hosting a pre-existing structure are quite possible, after all.
The picturesque stand-alone location of a historic outbuilding and the parameters of the almost inexistent construction budget set the stage for a balance of introversion and
extroversion in this barn-conversion from the very beginning.
In the transformation from a stable into a photo studio as a temporary workspace, the room initially closes itself off from the outside. It is entirely focused on the production of the images against the abstract setting of a background sweep.
With a radical cut into the fieldstone wall, models, photographers and teams are given a single generous view into the hilly expanse of the Uckermark.
This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
