Snark has renovated a building which had been used as an office into a speciality coffee roaster and coffee stand in Japan.
The project encompasses three roasting machines and a cupping space, within a limited space of 41 square metres.
In order to fit the necessary functions of the shop into the outlined area, a large display shelf was put in place to separate the customer seating area from the workshop without building walls.
Rather than contrasting the differences between the existing structure and the renovated interior, common elements were used to show the continuity of the old and new materials, creating an expansive space without separating the past from the present.
This project has been longlisted in the small retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
