Splinterworks has produced a temporary installation for a hotel in Devon inspired by the shape of a wave.

Created for the Gara Rock Hotel in Devon to provide some intrigue and fun when the hotel reopened following pandemic restrictions, the work was inspired by the shape of a 'waha' barrel wave much-prized by surfers.

True to the design ethos of Splinterworks of creating pieces that are experimental and theatrical but always fully functional, Waha served as both a usable water slide at the cliff-top pool, and as a striking sculptural statement against the southwest coastal backdrop. The striking form handmade from polished stainless steel creates reflections that allow it to blend effortlessly into its environment.

This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
