Sweco Architects has created a warm and inviting scheme for a substation in Sweden.
The substation was designed as a technical facility to be embraced within the context of a public space. It is intended to contribute to a sense of increased security and a warmth in the area at night.
The structure is built in a polished frame of light-coloured precast concrete. Outside the concrete, the building is clad in perforated gold-coloured cassettes. Inside the outer shell the light washes the concrete walls and penetrates through the perforations. The glossy concrete in turn enhances the light reflected on the gold-coloured plates.
This project has been longlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
