Design Token has turned a traditional South Korean residential space into a cafe and a small performance venue.
The project sees a hanok (traditional Korean house) turned into a performance space with amenities, and draws on the South Korean Royal Orchestra as concept.
The stage is located at the courtyard, where audiences can enjoy a show with drinks, while seating is created by extending and overlapping the terrace.
The folding screen behind the stage takes the role of an orchestra shell, while the wall is made of materials designed to create a rich reverberation. Elsewhere the iconic colours of the orchestra costume – yellow, blue and red – are used as lighting and finishes.
This project has been longlisted in the small retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
