Victorian Pride Centre challenges norms and hierarchies to meet the needs of LGBTQI+ communities in St Kilda.
The project is the first purpose-built LGBTQI+ centre in Australia and is located in Fitzroy Street, St Kilda.
The building provides a public working hub, café, theatre/multi-function space, archive, health centres, rooftop garden, art gallery and lettable space for tenants interested in a relationship with the LGBTQI+ communities.
While being the centre for numerous resident organisations, dozens of other groups will also frequent the building for meetings, events, and projects.
The structure encompasses a series of conceptual tubes that embrace the centre's key tenets of difference, diversity and inclusion. The central atrium provides natural light, a performance stage, an informal amphitheatre, and a dynamic focus at the heart of the building.
This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
