Mix Architecture has created a modern space with a traditional atmosphere in a national forest park in China.
The project is a centralised station for park management and tourism and is located in Wuxiang Mountain National Forest Park, Lishui District, Nanjing.
The building is based on a traditional courtyard and is split into two L-shaped parts: one part is the office-based internal space, and the other part is the tourist service-oriented external space. The two sections are dominated by the two angled L-shaped slope roofs, which interlace and twist into eaves in the inner courtyard.
The landscaped platforms and staggered folded roofs hide the walls to highlight the windows, flat skylights and trapezoidal openings, thereby integrating architecture and environment to bring the benefits of both to visitors and workers in the building.
This project has been longlisted in the hospitality building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
