Dongqi Design has created an open stage as a multipurpose space in China.

The project is housed within a repurposed old factory building in Shanghai, and provides an open stage for fashion showrooms, designer brand pop-ups and cafes, alongside artistic curations, VIP events and retailing opportunities.

The design interprets fashion as both timely and timeless, with an explorative approach to space and time. It creates an interesting nostalgic futurism by preserving historical finishes offset by a palette of new materials, set out amid new structures intended to connect various scenarios.

The result is a shifting kaleidoscope of identities that provides a sense of spatial continuity.

This project has been longlisted in the large retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
