Adam Kane Architects has transformed a cottage in a coastal Australian town into a contemporary dwelling that creates connection throughout the home.
The project revives a run-down weatherboard cottage near Melbourne through careful use of textural tones and deep understanding of the sense of space.
The entire existing cottage façade and roof is rejuvenated with a deep black palette, which delineates itself from the deliberately weathered, yet refined 'barn style' extension.
The transformation maintains a strong connection between inside and outside, old and new, while also deliberately playing on the sense of space using compression and release, to create a unique and unexpected experience as residents move through the home.
This project has been shortlisted in the house interior category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
