Officeu Architects has created a cohousing project on the edge of a small historical Belgian city with a focus on neighbourhood integration and global sustainability.
The project is located on the edge of Leuven's city centre. It consists of the renovation of an old cafeteria, which gave the project both its name and a common space for hosting collective functions, and two compact housing buildings, each with six apartments.
The design was selected following an open competition in recognition of its innovative solutions for privacy and collectivity, the integration of the project within the neighbourhood and the special attention for global sustainability.
This project has been shortlisted in the housing project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
