Hop Design has designed the Font Cutlery Set in New South Wales, Australia.
This project is a cutlery set that uses design and technology to create a better, more inclusive dining experience for users with different abilities. Most cutlery sets for domestic use are 'one-size-fits-all' and have no provision for people with varying abilities.
Different levels of hand strength, dexterity and control can result from age, injury, arthritis and congenital issues, among other issues – to create a universal solution for this diversity is impossible.
"Cutlery solutions for people with disabilities can be orthopaedic looking and create a sense of 'other' when sitting next to regular cutlery," said Hop Design. "We aim to change that."
This project has been shortlisted in the homeware design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
