Hakuten has designed the Ginza Ecological Map in Ginza, Japan.
This project was exhibited in a window of the Ginza Shiseido building to visualise the ecology that exists in the city of Giza.
Hakuten saw this "ecology", a trivial local resource in daily life, as a previously unseen beauty of the city, and believed that communicating this beauty to society would provide hints for a better relationship between people and nature, and for a more sustainable society.
Thus, a three-dimensional map of Ginza was created via fieldwork and conversations with local residents.
"In COVID-19, where we were provided with more opportunities to deeply reflect upon the global environment, this project allowed us to rethink the relationship between the city, people, and nature in an attempt to approach a more sustainable society," added designers Hakuten.
This project has been shortlisted in the exhibition design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
