BDP has created an innovative lighting scheme that seamlessly blends cutting-edge technology into a historical setting.

For the first time in a century the Grade I listed Theatre Royal Drury Lane has been completely refurbished to cutting-edge production standards, from the back of the house through the auditorium to the original reception rooms. The building is now fully accessible, with enhanced functional use for a wider variety of theatrical performances.

The lighting design brings together an innovative combination of stage technologies and low-energy LED lamps with 18th-century glass-cutting techniques and low-level integrated candelabras. The result is a warm ambience in keeping with the historic interiors and drawings from architect Benjamin Dean Wyatt’s original plans.

This project has been shortlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
