Batek Architekten has designed the Yorck Kino Passage in Berlin, Germany.
This project is where one of Berlin's oldest cinemas shines again. In the sense of a resource-conserving approach, the listed linoleum floor, parts of the steel cladding of the original bar, the existing brass spotlights and the beautiful historic stucco were refurbished and remained as part of the new overall concept.
"With our signature sensitivity towards existing spaces, we have brought new allure to the foyer and two smaller auditoriums of the Passage cinema through a series of precise interventions," said designers Batek Architekten.
This has allowed the historic aura of the 100-year-old building in Neukölln to unfold in new ways yet simultaneously fulfil the functional and aesthetic requirements for a visit to a contemporary cinema.
This project has been shortlisted in the civic and cultural interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
