Winner: Sustainable interior of the year 2022.  Multitude of Sins has designed The Circus Canteen in Bengaluru, India.

This project was born from the brewing cauldron of nostalgia and travel – a farm-to-table eatery created as a part of the premises of Bangalore Creative Circus.

"'No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else' – these words of Phineas Taylor Barnum seem to distil all that we have felt, seen and performed when it came to piecing together The Circus Canteen," said the studio.

Every element, from custom lighting, flooring and art installation to furniture, was acquired through a city-wide waste donation drive and has been ideated individually and brought to life with less than 10 per cent of the material sourced afresh.

Judges comments: "The Circus Canteen is a bottom-up, democratic way to design from scratch that references the street and its culture in its design language in an uplifting and fun way. So often sustainability is a heavy topic and this shows that it can be creative. The world needs a bit more bonkers!"
