Jane Abernethy
Jane Abernethy is an industrial designer and chief sustainability officer of office furniture company Humanscale.
Designer Abernethy leads the company in achieving a net positive impact through its products and operations. Collaborating with company executives, designers and engineers she guides the development process to try and create more sustainable products.
Humanscale's chief sustainability officer has spoken about sustainable product design and manufacturing at a variety of conferences and events globally, including Greenbuild and World Ocean Conference among others. She was also curator for RECKONstruct, the US Pavilion at the XXII Triennale de Milano international exhibition titled Broken Nature: Design Takes on Human Survival.
Her work has received several awards including the Red Dot Award and the GB&D Women in Sustainability Leadership Award. Under her management Humanscale has become a founding member of NextWave plastics aimed at reducing ocean plastic pollution and has been recognised as the first manufacturer to achieve the complete Living Product Challenge, an advanced product sustainability standard.
