Rafael de Cárdenas
Rafael de Cárdenas is founder of self-named New York-based design studio Rafael de Cárdenas.
Rafael de Cárdenas is an international practice encompassing residential and commercial interiors, architecture, furniture design, art advisory and brand development.
De Cárdenas received his undergraduate degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1996 and after began his career as a menswear designer for Calvin Klein. In 2022 he received a master’s in architecture from the University of California in Los Angeles.
Since founding his studio in 2006, de Cárdenas has worked with clients including Nike, Nordstrom, Baccarat, Glossier, Kenzo, Cartier, Christie’s and Rodarte. The studio's projects span the United States, Europe and Asia and include luxury private residences, retail, restaurants, art galleries, museum exhibitions, installations, furniture collections, objects and more.
De Cárdenas’s work is also the subject of a comprehensive monograph published by Rizzoli in 2017.
