Neil Cownie Architect has designed 123 House in Perth, Australia.
This project was created with a "melting pot of the clients’ own life stories" in mind and a celebration of the suburb in which the house and its interior are located – as well as a reflection of the lives of the people that inhabit these spaces.
"My clients owned and ran an Ampol service station on this site for thirty years before decommissioning the service station and subdividing the site while maintaining the site on the corner for themselves," said Neil Cownie Architect.
With the local community fondly remembering their service, the memory of the former petrol station is well captured in the fabric of the building.
This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
