Tan Yamanouchi & AWGL has designed A Japanese Manga Artist's House in Tokyo, Japan.
A Japanese Manga Artist's House was developed as a house and studio with a warped seismic wooden facade by Tan Yamanouchi & AWGL for a manga artist in Tokyo.
Located on a narrow site with a rich artistic history and drawing upon the storytelling aspect of 'manga', the design tells a story of the earth – welcoming an up-and-coming manga artist and transforming into architecture that rises dynamically from the ground up.
"In the interior, we designed a void with contrasts of high/low and light/dark to provide unenclosed yet defined areas that would allow for subtle and flexible use of space," said Tan Yamanouchi & AWGL.
This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
