Ignacio G. Galan, Jesse McCormick, and Future Projects have designed Another Seedbed: From Domesticity to Hospitality in New York City, United States.
"Another Seedbed is a new node in the cultural fabric of New York City, where the project facilitates different forms of hospitality through artistic performances and public events that the owner organises," said Future Projects.
Countering the tendency towards normative domesticities that characterises current trends, this project focused on renovating former industrial spaces.
Performance artists operating within lofts in New York City and other post-industrial cities from the 1960s to the 1980s systematically disturbed the construction of intimacy and challenged the notions of property and ownership.
Such challenges were decisive to the habitation of lofts, which questioned the conventional valuation of spaces and the ideologies of domesticity – thus, the idea for Another Seedbed: From Domesticity to Hospitality was created.
This project has been longlisted in the home interior category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
