IF_DO has designed the Brent Cross Town Substation in London, United Kingdom.
Designed by architects IF_DO and artist Lakwena as part of the Brent Cross Town regeneration, the Brent Cross Town Substation is wrapped in a 21-metre-high and 52-metre-long permanent public artwork, 'Here We Come, Here We Rise'.
"Substations are typically utilitarian pieces of infrastructure, enclosed in intentionally nondescript boxes [however] the Brent Cross Town substation is anything but. It is exuberant, colourful, joyful and uplifting," said IF_DO.
The site sits adjacent to major roads and railway lines, and it is estimated that some six million people will see it each year.
"It's designed to create a powerful sense of motion as viewers move past it," added IF_DO.
This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure and transport project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
