Thomas Randall-Page has developed Cody Dock Rolling Bridge in London, United Kingdom.
"It's not often a new typology of bridge is developed, but we think this really is one," said Thomas Randall-Page.
Developed over the past seven years, this innovative bridge design provides practical functionality and a unique gateway to a new creative quarter – as well as a celebratory and playful performance of the ritual of opening and closing.
Square in profile but carried on undulating tracks, this hand-powered, opening footbridge rolls upside-down, allowing boats to pass into the restored Cody Dock from the tidal Lea.
This project helps to complete the Leaway: a long-awaited riverside foot/cycle path running from Hertfordshire all the way to the Thames.
This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure and transport project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
